Moving in or changing who has a key
Count the exterior doors you use and note whether one key currently works in all of them. If the hardware works but you want a different key, read about rekeying locks before asking for an estimate. Mention missing keys and any locks that already feel unreliable; changing key access does not explain a sticking door by itself.
Match the request to the entrance
A house entry, an apartment unit door and a shared building entrance are different starting points. For shared hardware, ask who manages it and include that person in the conversation. The apartment and shared entrance guide walks through useful details. If your concern is a noisy or stuck garage door, use the separate garage door repair page.
Prepare a practical description
Explain whether the difficulty occurs with the door open, closed or both, without forcing the key or hardware. Note any smart lock model if that is part of your question, and ask whether the specific request can be handled. Our lock repair page covers assessment questions; the estimate guide helps you discuss the proposed work before deciding.
